The Institute
The non-profit scientific association known as the “Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences” was founded in Heraklion and is commonly referred to as “I.A.K.E.”
The Institute’s name in English is: “Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences.”
The Institute operates on the basis of volunteerism and solidarity with the aim of raising awareness and mobilizing its members, society, educators, and citizens to promote, advance, and highlight the humanities and social sciences and their values.
The Institute’s objectives are multifaceted and focus, among other things, on the following:
- Scientific, theoretical, and practical study and research in the fields of the humanities, political, and social sciences, covering topics in education, pedagogy, philosophy, history, archaeology, sociology, and culture.
- The development, implementation, and dissemination at the local, national, and supranational levels of innovative practices related to the sciences supported by the Institute.
- The provision of individual educational opportunities within lifelong learning and adult education frameworks at the national and European levels.
- The development, dissemination, and success of initiatives related to distance education and the application of new technologies.
- The development of pedagogical reflection and the exploration of issues related to the Sciences of Education and teaching practice.
- The promotion of social inclusion for vulnerable social groups.
